The mission of the Freehold Borough Human Relations Advisory Committee is to create and foster programming and practices that make our already-diverse community more inclusive, safe and productive for our residents, our local businesses, visitors and the surrounding communities.
The Borough of Freehold’s Human Relations Advisory Committee has adopted the following Diversity Statement:
Diversity, when it is accepted and respected, is a tremendous strength and asset for any community. It encompasses an understanding that each individual is unique and valuable to the welfare of the community. It recognizes and celebrates the differences amongst individuals, and capitalizes on the strengths resulting from these differences. Diversity works best when a community explores these differences in a safe, positive, and nurturing environment. The Human Relations Advisory Committee of Freehold Borough, NJ, in an effort to set an example for inclusivity, adopts the broadest definition of diversity with the following statement: The dimensions of diversity shall include, but are not limited to the following: race, ethnicity, persons of faith and non-believers, sexual orientation, sex, gender identity, disability, socioeconomic status, cultural orientation, physical abilities, political beliefs, age, and national origin and status.
About the Committee
The goal of the Committee is to advise the Mayor and Borough Council on ways to promote ethnic and cultural harmony among all Borough residents, foster, through community effort or otherwise, goodwill cooperation and conciliation among the groups and elements of the inhabitants of the community.
The Committee will identify and make recommendations to the Mayor and Council for the development of policies and procedures in general, and for programs of formal and informal education, that will aid and eliminate all types of discrimination based on, but not limited to, race, creed, color, national origin, ancestry or age.
The Committee will develop programs that will promote health, education, welfare, employment, economics, recreation and total prosperity of all segments of the people of Freehold Borough.
The Committee will propose ways to encourage goodwill, cooperation, and conciliation among the multicultural residents of the Borough. It will also recommend educational and cultural programs to foster unity and develop a sense of community.
The Committee is dedicated to fostering an atmosphere of understanding and acceptance of each individual. Freehold Borough is a great place to live, work, and grow giving us a unique opportunity to recognize, appreciate, and celebrate the many cultures that make up our town.
Statement on Middle East War
The Freehold Borough Human Relations Advisory Committee (HRAC) would like to send our thoughts and support to all of those impacted by the tragic situation in the Middle East. The killing of innocent Palestinians and Jewish people is appalling and unconscionable. We denounce terrorism, hate, violence, and the senseless murder of civilians anywhere in the world. Civilians should never be a target of war. This war is profoundly isolating and scary for Jewish and Palestinian Americans and we further condemn all anti-Semitic or Islamophobic statements and hate crimes. Please check on your neighbors. HRAC is dedicated to fostering an atmosphere of understanding and acceptance of everyone in Freehold Borough. We are a community and should support each other as such, especially in times of uncertainty and grief.
