Report a Street Light Outage

While the Borough of Freehold does not own the lights which line our streets, it is important to have functioning lights for the safety of our neighborhoods. JCP&L, the electric utility responsible for street lighting service, is regulated by the State Board of Public Utilities (BPU). As we have said before, that is no excuse for poor service.  What adds insult to injury is that Borough of Freehold taxpayers pay for the electric service to these lights whether they function or not.

 

JCP&L is having significant difficulty keeping up with and track of non-functioning street lights.  We are aware that some residents are reporting the street light outages directly to JCP&L as per their website, yet weeks and even months later, these lights are still not functioning. 

 

To assist with our efforts, we are asking residents to report street light issues on JCP&L’s website using the either the location of the streetlight(s) or the  “pole #”  found on a metal band affixed to the pole using this link: https://www.firstenergycorp.com/content/customer/service_requests/report-lighting-problem.html.html

 

Once reported on line, JCPL’s website will generate an email confirmation and a work order number for your request. If after 14 work days the light has not been repaired, please forward the JCP&L confirmation/work order number to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with ‘Street Light’ in the subject line so we can keep track of the work orders and try to hold this private utility accountable. While we don’t control the operations of this monopoly, we will do our best to get these lights repaired.
